Oral Surgery
Dr. Grossman
has extensive experience in major hospital oral and maxillofacial
surgery, including trauma, orthodontic surgery and facial reconstruction.
He concentrates on office surgery, Dental Implants, Bone and Tissue
Grafting, Wisdom Tooth Removal, Dental Extractions; Management of
Oral Pathology (Cyst, tumors, and infections); Endodontic, Microsurgery
(Root Canal Surgery) and Temporomand ibular Joint Therapy.
We utilize
the latest instruments and techniques to provide the best care.
These include Intraoral Laser Surgery, Anesthesia and Pain Control,
and Diagnostic Imaging.
Dental Extractions
Extractions
are performed with effort to save supporting bone and gum tissues.
This preserves the maximum structures to support the placement of
implants, bridges, or dentures for the best possible functional
and cosmetic results.
Management
of Oral Pathology (Cyst, Tumors, and Infections)
Oral pathology
and oral infections can cause pain and swelling. Significant damage,
not noticed by patient is seen by your dentist in our x-rays. We
use state of the art diagnostic instruments such as panoramic x-rays,
tomograms, and CT scans.
Pathology is
treated with laser surgery using microscopes when appropriate. We
will discuss the diagnosis and treatment options in detail and supply
you with copies of all pathology reports.
Reconstruction
(Jaws, Dentures, Bridges, Implants)
Jaw bone and
gum tissues shrink, get distorted or are lost from cyst, tumors,
trauma, periodontal disease and tooth loss. Pressure from dentures,
and partials, slowly destroy the bone which can be restored with
implants, bone grafts and/or soft tissue. Grafts must be added in
areas where cosmetics are a concern, such as the front of the mouth,
before implants, bridges or denture can be made.
Dr. Grossman
currently uses a new technology that will enhance and shorten the
time your body needs to heel itself. By using a small amount of
your own blood, we can produce a gel that when applied properly,
will accelerate wound and bone graft healing, while decreasing the
amount of bruising traditionally associated with various cosmetic
and dental procedures. This procedure is called harvesting of Platelet
Derived Growth Factors or Platelet Rich Gel.
The PDGF gel
that is produced while you are in surgery is rich in your own blood's
growth factors. These growth factors allow your body to heal itself
faster. Since it's your blood there is no chance for transmission
of infections. The procedure is simple and pain free. Once you are
in the surgical suite, a small amount of blood is taken from you,
processed and the PDGF gel is applied at the surgical site or mixed
with the bone graft material and applied on top of the graft towards
the end of the procedure. This technique is one of many that Dr.
Grossman has incorporated into his practice to make sure that you
have the best care.
Endodontic
Microsurgery (Root Canal Surgery)
Recently, the
operating microscope has been introduced to the dental community
where its use has revolutionized surgical endodontics (surgical
root canals). Cases that only a few years ago could not be done
and required tooth extraction now can be treated with great clinical
success.
Surgical root
canals are done when regular root canals fail, when there is a large
cyst or infection in the bone at the root of a tooth, and when teeth
have caps (crowns) or large filling where regular root canals are
difficult to do.
Postoperatively
patients have reduced discomfort and swelling when procedures are
done under the microscope or surgical telescope because tissue is
handled so gently during these procedures.
Anesthesia
All surgical
procedures may be done using local anesthesia (numbing). Nitrous
oxide, (laughing gas) and/or intravenous general anesthesia, (twilight
sleep), (IV sedation) are also available and commonly used to reduce
stress and anxiety. Our staff is CPR trained. Dr, Grossman is certified
in Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and we have a general anesthesia
license from the board of Dental Examiners- which requires regular
in-office testing. Our anesthesia monitoring equipment is the same
as you would find in a modern hospital operating room.
Patient
Education
Informed patients
understand and participate in their treatment and care. Good communications
make for better results and happier patients.
In addition
to personal consultations, we have patients education programs which
address the details of his services, like CDs, VCR tapes and
written material.
If at any time you have additional questions, please ask!
Infection
Control
Since taking
medical histories and clinical examinations do not guarantee the
identification of serious infectious diseases such as hepatitis,
herpes and HIV, we practice UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS and follow infectious
control guidelines of OSHA and the US Center for Disease Control,
including:
- BARRIER
Technique - the use of gloves, surgical masks and protective clothing
when treating patients.
- STERILIZATION
and DISINFECTION - steam on chemical, sterilization is used to
destroy all microorganisms, on all surgical instruments. Sterile
irrigating solutions are used. Disposable instruments are used
where possible and all sterilizing equipment is biological monitored
routinely.
All operatory
equipment and surfaces that are disinfected with Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) registered disinfectants that are tuberculocidal, virucidal,
and eliminates virtually all recognized pathologic microorganisms
(bacteria).
Diagnostic
Imaging
We use state
of the art 'high tech' imaging procedures to assure the safest and
most accurate surgical results. We have in office panographic equipment.
Tomographic x-ray equipment is available This technology is particularly
valuable when planning implant cases, as we can evaluate bone and
jaw relationship in all dimensions, and even do 'mock surgery' on
the computer-assuring that there will be no surprises during the
real surgery.
